Hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians are without healthcare -- thousands have permanently lost their jobs - and mortgage foreclosures are the highest they've been in years. We've lost thousands of our military men and women in a war that has re-directed billions of dollars away from much-needed domestic priorities. As Democratic legislators who represent major portions of the 18th Congressional district, we are joining together -- along with Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker-Knoll -- to endorse Steve O'Donnell in the upcoming Democratic primary because Steve is smart, committed, and has a full grasp of all the issues. He is the most qualified candidate and our party's best candidate. Steve O'Donnell is a life-long Democrat and U.S. Navy veteran who has dedicated twenty-five years of his life to working with the mentally handicapped. He supports universal health care coverage for all Americans because he knows from first-hand experience how vitally important health care coverage is for working families.
Steve agrees with us that we need to end this war in Iraq now -- and start bringing our troops home in a way that insures their safety. We need to strengthen Democratic control of the U.S. Congress so we can refocus our national resources on crucial domestic priorities.
This Democratic primary election is very important. Please do not take it lightly. Please join us in endorsing Steve O'Donnell -- our best candidate -- by supporting him during your county committee's endorsement process.
Thank you.
HON. CATHERINE BAKER KNOLL
Lieutenant Governor
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
December 17th, 2007I have been a life-long Democrat because the Democratic Party has always fought to protect working families. Democrats have always stood strong in opposing Republican efforts to turn back the clock on crucial family initiatives like steady increases in the minimum wage - health care coverage for children and our families- pay equity and family medical leave laws - and safer workplace standards.
There is a real difference between Democrats and Republicans - and that is why I am supporting Steve O'Donnell in the upcoming Democratic primary that will decide our party's nominee to challenge incumbent Republican Tim Murphy in the 18th congressional district. I know we can trust Steve to stand up and fight the Republican anti-family agenda - and help end this war in Iraq.

- Better Local Schools & Increased Educational Opportunities
- A Comprehensive & Coordinated Homeland Security Operation
- Improved Crime-Fighting Programs for Local Police
- Protecting Social Security from Privatization

O'Donnell Enters Race for Congress Against Incumbent Murphy
Local businessman - Lifelong Democrat and U.S. Navy Veteran
October 25th, 2007Local Monroeville businessman Steve O'Donnell today announced that he will seek the Democratic nomination to challenge incumbent Republican Congressman Tim Murphy in next year's congressional election in the 18th district.
In making his announcement, O'Donnell, a lifelong Democrat and U.S. Navy veteran said, "Over 3,000 American soldiers, and countless innocent Iraqi civilians, have lost their lives in a war that has little to do with our homeland security. As the human and economic toll mounted from George Bush's ill-begotten war, our Congressman Tim Murphy -- stood with those who blindly supported George Bush and questioned Congressman John Murtha's patriotism when he opposed the escalation of the war in Iraq."
O'Donnell continued, "When our nation needed reasoned dissent and independent voices to stand up to George Bush - Tim Murphy remained silent and stood on the sidelines."
"I'm running for Congress to take a strong stand against George Bush and his allies in Congress like Tim Murphy - who support this misguided war - while continuing their assault on the needs of working families in western Pennsylvania. I support Congressman John Murtha's call to start bringing our troops home - now," O'Donnell said.
"I've spent most of my adult life working with the mentally handicapped and their families. I want to re-focus our national attention on the needs of our families and key domestic priorities like; Univeral Health carefor all Americans; better local schools & increased educational opportunities; comprehensive & coordinated homeland security operation; improved crime-fighting programs for local police; and protecting social security from privatization," O'Donnell said.
Steve O'Donnell is a lifelong resident of western Pennsylvania. He was born in Homewood and grew up in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh. He and his wife, Carol, reside in Monroeville, where they raised their two children, Megan and Ryan.
